No Video? No Problem
I'm quoted on the Associated Press wire about youtube videos.

This article is cool and all, but they left out the best example: HOTSTYLZ!

My Quote

DJ Sickamore, who was director of A&R at Atlantic Records for two years and now has his own entertainment management company, says YouTube is a simpler way to listen to music on the Internet.

"Other file hosting sites have too many steps," said DJ Sickamore. "If I like a song, I can hear it instantly without any problems. You definitely have to take advantage of this tool."

Al Be @ SOBs Last Night

*All photos courtesy of Moises De Pena

Last night I went to Hot 97's Old Hea...err....old school show at SOBs. Can't lie, didn't go to see anyone but Al Be Back.

Al Be's from the Bronx, but you might know him from ATL

Or maybe from Def Poetry Jam

Either way, the show was dope. We're working on the new mixtape now so I'll keep you posted.

Also below is a couple of random youtubes from Al Be getting his Dany Glover on in NYC. I tried to talk to him. Filmed from a Helio by Helio Hov

Live Blogging XVIBE 15th Aniversary Juice Issue

Its a double sided multi cover issue. So I'll start with the special edition side:

12:24pm: There are 20 pages (!!!) of Rocawear Eveloution ads. Gonna put up one for free. I'm sure some Hova stan will upload all of them. But Rocawear doesn't have any ads here. It's a mix of Jay-Z + Joy Bryant

12:27pm:
Diddy article is a snooze fest. Doesn't say anything you haven't heard before. Harlem this, Bad Boy that, 15 years we won't stop. The end

12:31pm: Tyler Perry article is boring. Maybe Eryah Badu has something more interesting to say. Whoa she's 37?! Go Old Head! Besides that, nothing you don't know already

12:36pm: "I started off break dancing..." -Shaq. I dunno why that's so funny to me

12:50pm: White girl Beyonce on originals, "Those who start the trends and break the mold. There are people who I love, but pure originals? Prince. Madonna. I think Kanye..."

12:59pm: T-Pain + Birdman + Teri Woods + Mara Brock Akil + Ice Cube + Funkmaster Flex + Sway = ZzzzZZZZzzzzzzZZzz

1:03pm: 'What's the key to your track record?' "I don't take any shorts. I don't say "Okay, it's good enough". I try to get exactly what I'm hearing in my head to the tape, and I won't let it move until then. In my opinion, some of the hip hop records that come out, people are willing to compromise. I'm not" -Dr. Dre

1:16pm The power of the C-A-S-S-I

1:24pm Ok. This is starting to get boring. Let's go right to the Jay article

1:36pm: I'm glad Vibe got Elliot Wilson to do the article. Only he would bring up Word To The Jaz

1:44pm: "I have a relationship with Bill Clinton. I'm cool with Bill. We've had multiple conversations. He frequents the restaurant that I own. But immediately, it was no problem for me because at the end of the day, race is more important then gender" = Bros over Hoes

1:55pm NahRight posted up the Jay-Z cover + excerpts as well. They're questioning the legitamicy of live blogging a magazine. But you can live blog anything. Hence Twitter. Thats like LiveBlogging.com

2:00pm "I had no intention to talk about the DeShawn Stevenson thing. I seen him beating the shit out of LeBron, and he really couldn't do nothing. I really wanted to inspire LeBron. I sent him the freestyle. The song wasn't to be released. I sent him the song to get him amped up. I do shit like that" . In that case, the Knicks need a double album.

2:20pm
"Any second guessing went away when Dame was participating in the whole beef with Cam'Ron. Regardless, what we built, is still precious. At the end of the day, there's still a respect in that. No matter what! i'm not going to do certain things or say certain things about Dame. That's out of respect for what we've done. I'm not going to go too far. And I just felt like any participation in that, whether you could stop it or not, if you're in the video or you're on the set or you're involved in that, then I pretty much made the right decision because a person that carries that forever will respect that situation." C'mon Jay. You gotta admit this video is pretty funny

3:07pm: I dunno how much I can take Gravy/Biggie thing. But Faith is looking smashable (no berg)

3:17pm
Shocking! A Obama article. Gonna read this one on the run. See if there's anything worth quoting

A Very British Gangster Movie Review

I'm a very typical 23 year old man. A movie called "Very Gangster" anything gets my 10 bucks. Went to Cinema Village last night to catch this import.

Just be warned: this isn't your Casino/American Gangster/Goodfellas kind of flick. It's a documentary following around Dominick Noonan, Brixtown's version of Tony Soprano. He extorts and owns a security business. Has a bunch of 17-21 year old flunkies following him around and a big brother with over 20 known murders under his belt.

They follow Noonan around the town where he plays intermediary to domestic disputes, debt collectors and overzealous robbers. Sort of a town hero. SPOILER ALERT!
The weirdest part about the movie is Dominick's openly gay. "A little bit of lavender" as they said. They get into too much detail of how this came about. Besides that, he's your typical gangster with 2 kids.

Overall, I recommend you wait AVBG is released on Demand. I fell asleep about 3 times.

This Is Not A Typo: Sex In The City Review
So...well...ummmm...I went to see the Sex In The City movie last night. Yep. Yessir. Uh huh. And...ummm...I actually liked it. Pause. Ayo. But ummm...lemme explain myself before I lose all my male readers.

As state in a previous blog, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Similar to when I went to see other movies I didn't particularly care for (I Am Legend, Pirates...Caribbean etc). I did my due dilligence on all the characters beforehand. SJP vs Big. The Old Head Nympho. The weirdo looking real life lesbian. And the super perky serial jogger.

The theater on 11th and 3rd Avenue was filled with latte sipping, Chanel clutching packs of Carrie groupies ready to fight/kill/stab/shoot/steal/die over their mid row seats. Definitely proud to say I was the straightest man there...by far.

The movie played like one long SITC episode. It felt like one of those TV end specials rather then a movie. There was no real surprises the whole way. But that doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining. Favorite parts is the coloring conversation.

The only thing I didn't like was Jennifer Hudson's sambo Auntie Jemima character "Louise".
jemShe had rented luxury bags, just fresh from the most southern hood, lives in a slaveship apartment with 3 other people and spends all her money trying to look good and find love. I gringed everytime she appeared on screen. "Louise" is the only representation we had and her character set us back 15 years. I would've rather a total white out. "My very own Louis Vuitton bag". GTFOH!!!!.

Overall though the experience wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. So don't cry too much if your girl/wifey/jumpoff/bust it baby/hoodrat drags you to go see this movie. Just remember to look away at that last Samantha LA beach shower scene. And tehe lesbo sex scene. PAUSE x Million!

Tha "Comfortable" Carter III Review
Photobucket

You cannot stop Wayne, you can only hope to contain him. He's probably the closest thing rap's had to an authentic "rockstar" (drugs, tattoos, erraticness, disregard in releasing music) since DMX. My favorite part about him is his unpredictability. The way you don't know if he's going to rap, sing, hum, chant or just die on his next record. Everything is usually fair game with Wayne. That is until Tha Carter III.

Not saying the album is bad, it's just tame. There are no real highs or no real lows on C3. "Mr. Carter" shows Wayne taking it easy on his inspiration, while Jay rides the same laid back cruise control flow he's been post-Black Album. "Dr Carter" is definitely creative, but no 90's Baby is keeping that on repeat. "Mrs Officer" and "Comfortable" are cliche' hit record delivered by Wyclef and Kanye respectively. Real smooth, laid back clean track a la Fabolous or Mase. None of the edge of "Lisa Marie" or "Pussy Monster". Actually, it sets the tone for the album: comfortable.

Weezy gets way too comfortable on Robin Thicke's lullaby "Tie My Hands" and "Misunderstood". Personally don't want to hear Mr. Lollipop kick knowledge. I rather feel his pain. But instead of stadium status songs like "I Feel Like Dying", he gives the underwhelming "Shoot Me Down". Don't get me wrong, it's a good song. Just not for Tha Carter 3. The only album my nephew ever asked me about in his 12 years on earth.

The energy peak of C3 comes for the singles. "A Milly" and "Lollipop" is that's the unpredictable, ucontrollable, unstoppable and ORIGINAL Wayne we've come to know and love. The other street record shows Wayne gets outshined by his peers on "Nothing On Me" featuring Fabolous and Juelz. They spit like it was going to be featured on the most anticipated album of 2008. Weezy must've not been CCed on that email, coming thru with the same lackadaisical flow he displays all album.

"Get you 3-4 get you like da number after 1 I'm a get me 2
It's Weezy f u now u gotta hava babayy
My money don't fold nor bends/benz
Mercedes maybach, grey black
And I gota 4-4 and a k like 8-stacks
Fuck yo city yo town I state facts, take dat
No, better yet like Diddy, 'Take Dat'"

Again, I'm not saying it's a bad album. On the contrary, Tha Carter III is technically solid. But safe. I expected the self proclaimed "best rapper alive" to take the art to the next level. The other Mr. Carter said it best:

"Young Carter, go farther, go further, go harder
It's that not why we came? If not then why bother?"

It reminds me of Nas "I Am" album where his best songs didn't make the final mix of the album. I'll post my own version of C3 collecting songs off of mixtapes later today.

Strangers Movie Review
Strangers
And the couple walked into the house. And they heard strange noises. And these killers started chasing them around the property. And they almost got away. And they were captured. And then...

Feel cheated? Incomplete? That's exactly how The Strangers left. I guess it's not supposed to be your traditional classic horror movie. Not I Know What U Did Last Summer. It keeps you trapped in suspense for the first 45 minutes. Every noise, masked barbie doll, dropped glass, token white girl scream etc. But after that the novelty of it all stopped.

The character's weren't developed so I didn't care who lived or died. Just walked out the theater and don't remember any names. The kills had no point. The love story was the scariest part of all. If you've seen the preview, you've seen the movie. Save your money.
